How to make beautiful Midjourney portraits
Making Midjourney portraits is easy, but the output can be slightly inconsistent. However, you can do some things to improve your Midjourney images.
I’ve been generating Midjourney portraits for a few weeks now and learned a lot about what works and what doesn’t.
Although many things improved in Midjourney V5, I often struggle with its limitations. Especially when you want to create a detailed background, it can compromise the face details, making your AI models look pretty creepy.
To make sure my portraits look more consistent, I started adding specific keywords to my prompt that usually generate a result closer to my expectation.
Best keywords for Midjourney Portraits
When I make Midjourney portraits, I always add Vogue Cover Shoot or Vogue Fashion Photography to my prompts.
Adding these keywords gives my portraits the aesthetics I’m looking for and makes them look crisp and sharp. Focusing on professional photography also ensures that faces are always in focus.
Multiprompting in Midjourney
When I want a detailed background but don’t want to compromise on the details shown in a face, I add a double colon to my prompt to ensure Midjourney stays focused on the correct details in my image.
Adding a double colon :: to a prompt indicates to the Midjourney Bot that it should consider each part of the prompt separately.

Every image set includes the used prompt text that you can use in Midjourney. I encourage you to experiment and use these prompts to create the result you’re looking for.
I use image resolution 2:3 (–AR 2:3) for my images; make sure to edit this part of the prompt if you prefer a different resolution.
The images below are made with Midjourney v5.0. You can adjust this to the latest Midjourney version, but be aware that this can slightly alter the outcome.
